WHAT IS A TRIVERSEN?

A Triversen is a modern form of poetry invented by the very famous William Carlos. It is quite a simple form of poetry with not many rules that constraints poets from writing. Being a modern form of poetry, it is very innovative and is a beautiful challenge for new poets.

HOW TO WRITE A TRIVERSEN?

~One stanza is one sentence. One stanza has just one sentence broken into parts.

~One stanza has three parts. So it would mean that one sentence is broken into three phrases which are written as separate lines.

~Each foot varies between 2-4 beats per line. Foot is a basic repeated sequence of meter composed of two or more accented or unaccented syllables.

~One thing to be noted is that line 1 is the statement of fact and lines 2 and 3 set the tone or carry a metaphor for the stated fact.

~It typically employs 1 to 4 strong syllables in a line.

EXAMPLE OF TRIVERSEN:

ON GAY WALLPAPER

                                      ~William Carlos

The green-blue ground

is ruled with silver lines

to say the sun is shining.

And on this moral sea

of grass or dreams like flowers

or baskets of desires

Heaven knows what they are

between cerulean shapes”

laid regularly round.

Mat roses and tridentate

leaves of gold

threes, threes, and threes.

Three roses and three stems

the basket floating

standing in the horns of blue.

Repeated to the ceiling

to the windows

where the day

Blow in

the scalloped curtains to

the sound of rain
