Triolet

A Triolet is a poem closely related to the forms Rondeau and Rondel. It  is an eight lined poem which looks like this :

L1.First line (A)

L2. Second line (B)

L3. A line rhyming with the first line (a)

L4.Repeat the first line. (A)

L5. Another line rhyming with first line (a)

L6. A line rhyming with the second line (b)

L7. Repeat the first line (A)

L8. Repeat the second line (B)

In short its rhyme scheme is 'ABaAabAB' , wherein capital letters represent the refrain.

An example is "Birds At Winter Nightfall" by Thomas Hardy

Around the house the flakes fly faster,

And all the berries now are gone

From holly and cotoneaster

Around the house. The flakes fly!--faster

Shutting indoors that crumb-outcaster

We used to see upon the lawn

Around the house. The flakes fly faster,

And all the berries now are gone!

by Thomas Hardy

Tips :

1. If you are into writing a triolet choose a theme that would be looking good with refrains stressing certain points

2. You just have to pen 5 lines that are repeated so choose effective vocabulary.  Write down synonyms to every word in your poem and rule out the best fit.

3. Let the rhyme flow and not be forced.

So what are you waiting for!  Let the creative juices to flow!!
