What is a Thanbauk?
Thanbauk originated from a group of people called the 'Bamar' who live in Burma ( Myanmar) . This form is indicated as 'climbing rhyme' or 'staircase rhyme' . It consists of four lines of four syllables each and the first line , third syllable of the second line , second syllable of the third line and the first syllable of the last line rhyme.
So it goes like this
x x x a
x x a x
x a x x
a x x x
Here 'a' denotes the rhyme and 'x' the other syllables. So you can see how it appears like a stair.
Thanbauks are traditionally epigrams , that is short poems that are surprising or satirical.
An example of Thanbauk
Death in the moon.
Her red kite flew
to the blue moon
tears knew what was
true . It won't reach.
So it's a very simple form. All you have to do are type in four syllables per line. Choose a beautiful title. Short poems are more beautiful when the title is striking.
So what are you waiting for let your pen pen a Thanbauk.
