FORMAT OF RONDEAU :

It is a rhyming poetry form with the first words of first line of the first stanza acting as a refrain and will be repeated in the last lines of the second and third stanzas . The rhyme scheme is as follows, with “R” representing the refrain:

 AABBA

AABR

 AABBAR.

EXAMPLE OF RONDEAU :

The mother thinks, by Robert Lee Brewer

The mother thinks she is killing her son

with his shampoo—his hair coming undone

in her hands over time. He feels no pain

says the son. But she knows he'll feel again

the loss of his dad always on the run.

The mother remembers the morning sun

slanting on a messy bed of just one.

No note or cash—she remembers the pain.

The mother thinks

there is something she could have done. Her son

was not wanted by his dad. "No more fun,"

he said after learning. Heart breaking pain

when instead of joy, he often complained

of her weight gain. Then, of course, he was gone,

the mother thinks.

TIPS FOR WRITING A RONDEAU :

● It is a structural , fixed form of poetry , so ofcourse you have to keep in mind its structure .

● As told above it consists of 15 lines which are divided into three stanzas , that are a quintet , a quatrain and a seset .

● It is also a rhyming poetry ; with just two rhymes that is A and B . But apart from this don't forget that the opening lines of first line of first stanza is repeated in the last lines of second and third stanzas .

I think that the refrain part of this poetry makes it unique . It was used to write songs in the earlier thirteenth century , so its still used as a lyrical type poetry . But what are you still doing here?? Shoo shoo...go imagine , write and astonish the world with your creativity !!
