MAGIC 9

 MAGIC 9

Magic 9 is a relatively new and unknown form of poetry. It is a very easy and simple form of poetry that has no rules other than the set rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme is abacadaba. What a difficult scheme to remember? No, it’s easy. It is just a poet misspelling abracadabra. Remove the R’s from abracadabra and there you have your rhyme scheme.

EXAMPLE OF A MAGIC 9:

FAREWELL FOREVER

                                                          ~Avaanthikha Narayan

With utmost pleasure, your sweet soul shall depart

as it rises above the horizon, it looks down

gazing at the green meadows cut into art

cross eyed at the cows and calves

the thunderous engine on its side does start

but nothing stirs your stare as you search

organs of vision glance, gaze, dart

and not finding what they want, leave a frown

nowhere to be seen is the one who has your heart.

TIPS TO WRITE A MAGIC 9:

  1. Remember the rhyme scheme. It is better to write down the scheme somewhere before writing the poem. This helps you in following the scheme.

  2. Do not make the rhyme seem too forced, else the poem loses the smooth flow.

  3. Give a catchy title to the poem and draw the reader in.

Now that you know the magic behind a Magic 9, why don’t you explore your wizardry and produce a wonder?
